Union talks dragging on
The Conciliation Board has called the disputing parties in for a new meeting today at 2pm.
The parties spent the entire day yesterday locked in contract talks, and according to mediator Terji Sigurðsson, it will take a while before a draft settlement can be presented.
Negotiations between the Ministry of Finance’ payroll department and the Engineers’ Union started on 12 March. The dispute centres on the renewal of four contracts, all of which expired on 1 October 2017:
- The contract with national transport company Strandfaraskip Landsins
- The contract with publicly appointed land-based engineers
- The contract with Vørn, the Faroese Fishery Inspection
- The contract with the crew on research vessel ‘Magnus Heinason’.
