The National Hospital needs DKK 21 million to balance its accounts for this year. Some of this has been retrieved through cost-saving measures, but DKK 10 million is still needed.

This is an urgent matter, because the hospital needs to introduce further money-saving initiatives in its efforts to balance its accounts. The current appropriation simply does not cover the daily running of the hospital, says the management.

Some DKK 14m are required to maintain the same levels as in 2017. On top of that, the hospital has received a DKK 7m bill for patient treatment in Denmark in 2016 and 2017.

The main reasons for the deficit are that salary payments have gone up by DKK 4m, consultant fees have risen by DKK 10m and special treatments abroad cost DKK 7m.

Some cost-saving steps, including reducing the number of patients sent abroad for treatment, have been introduced, but the hospital is still DKK 10m short.
