National hospital given money to pay old bill
The National Hospital needs DKK 21 million to balance its accounts for this year. Some of this has been retrieved through cost-saving measures, but DKK 10 million is still needed.
The Finance Committee has debated the hospital’s DKK 10 million request and has decided to grant the hospital DKK 7 million to cover an old bill.
“The committee agrees that an additional bill such as this one – for treatments dating back to 2016 – qualifies for support from the Finance Committee,” says Ruth Vang, chairwoman of the committee.
Other expenses, such as external consultant salaries, should be treated as additional appropriations to be discussed in Parliament rather than in the Finance Committee, she adds.
Ms Vang believes that the Minister of Health ought to propose an additional grant which would consolidate the standard of treatment in the Faroese health system.
