Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen admits that the Faroese Administration of Justice Act is in dire need of an upgrade.

The Administration of Justice Act was one of the topics at a meeting between Johannesen and the Danish Minister of Justice, Søren Pape Poulsen, this morning.

More than 200 amendments have been made to the Danish Act, which have not been put into effect in the Faroes.

“This is unfortunate,” says the Prime Minister, “because the Court of the Faroe Islands is an integrated part of the Danish court system, and yet we are seeing many sentences appealed to the Danish High Court or the Supreme Court.

A working group, consisting of 12 Faroese and Danish legal experts, was appointed in March 2017 to prepare the new Act, which is expected to be ready early next year.
