MP seeks clarity on civil registration numbers
Is there anything preventing a Faroese citizen from being given a Danish civil registration number to go with the Faroese one?
This is one of the questions in a formal enquiry presented to the High Commissioner by Bárður á Steig Nielsen, the leader of Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party).
Nielsen mentions as an example Faroese patients transferred to a Danish hospital who often face administrative complications because the Danish hospital system uses the Danish civil registration number (known as CPR-number).
Another question concerns dual citizenship. Nielsen asks whether it is right that members of a commonwealth can have different citizens’ rights in the various parts of the commonwealth.
He also asks whether Faroese authorities are permitted to grant and cancel the citizenship of a person residing in the Faroes. More specifically, he asks whether Faroese authorities, in case the Faroes were to leave the Danish commonwealth, can strip Faroese citizens of their Danish citizenship against their will.
