Gallup poll: government losing support
The government is losing its majority support, with only 16 seats, while the opposition secures a 17-seat majority, according to a new Gallup poll.
Compared with the 2015 General Election, the two major opposition parties – Fólkaflokkurin (the People’s Party) and Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party) – improve their standings, while all other parties are losing support.
The new poll reveals the following figures, compared with the 2015 General Election:

Recent polls have all indicated that Fólkaflokkurin is the largest party, and this poll is no exception in this regard. Fólkaflokkurin leads with 23.7 percent of the vote and eight seats, which is two more than today.
Coalition party Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democrats) is second, with 22.9 percent of the vote and eight seats, which is the same as in the 2015 election.
In third is coalition party Tjóðveldi, with 19.3 percent of the vote and six seats, one less than today.
Sambandsflokkurin is fourth in the poll, with 19 percent and six seats, the same number of seats as in the last election.
Framsókn (the Progress Party) received 6.7 percent and two seats, and Miðflokkurin (the Central Party) received 4.7 percent and two seats, followed by Sjálvstýri (the Self-governing Party), with 3.6 percent and one seat, which is one less than today.
These figures suggest that the government is trailing with 16 seats against 17 for the opposition.
The poll is based on phone interviews conduction between 14 November and 28 November in which 515 randomly selected citizens took part.
