Independent MP joins Tjóðveldi
Indpendent MP and former member of Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democrats) Sonja Jógvansdóttir has now signed up with Tjóðveldi (Republicans).
The party is currently debating whether Jógvansdóttir should become a member of Tjóðveldi’s parliamentary group in this electoral period.
Left another party due to internal disagreements
Jógvansdóttir ran for the 2015 election for Javnaðarflokkurin and instantly became a vote catcher with 1020 votes, topped only by Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen.
However, the day after the Tjóðveldi, Javnaðarflokkurin and Framsókn (Progress Party) coalition was announced, she left the party due to internal disagreements. She has been an independent MP since then.
“This feels like the natural thing to do,” she says. “I’m doing this to strengthen Tjóðveldi and the coalition. There has been a lot of turmoil in government recently, and I hope this will add a bit more stability.”
