GP shortage slowly improving
Almost 1,200 citizens in Tórshavn are still waiting to have a GP assigned to them. But the situation has improved in recent years

More than 1,000 people in Tórshavn currently have no GP. This has been the case for some time, and the problem will take some time to solve due to a shortage of doctors and surgery space.

“We are waiting for suitable premises for our GP surgeries,” says Egil á Bø, the head of Heilsutrygd (the Public Health Insurance).

He adds that the GP situation in the Faroes has improved in the past few years. There are currently 24 full-time permanent GP position in the country, compared with only 17 in March 2017.
