More than 1,000 people in Tórshavn currently have no GP. This has been the case for some time, and the problem will take some time to solve due to a shortage of doctors and surgery space.
“We are waiting for suitable premises for our GP surgeries,” says Egil á Bø, the head of Heilsutrygd (the Public Health Insurance).
He adds that the GP situation in the Faroes has improved in the past few years. There are currently 24 full-time permanent GP position in the country, compared with only 17 in March 2017.
