Government spending will increase by 4.5 percent next year, according to the finance ministry’s budget projection for 2020-2024.

The biggest appropriation increase will go to the national health service, which stands to receive an extra DKK 70 million, compared with the original budget for this year. This figure includes additional grants for 2019.

The Ministry of Finance is expecting an annual budget surplus of DKK 200m over the next five years. Next year’s estimated surplus is DKK 501m, increasing to DKK 700m in 2024.

These figures are based on the presumption that the current economic growth will continue. According to finance minister Kristina Háfoss, the Faroese GDP has now exceeded DKK 20 billion
