Work begins on Dalur tunnel next month
Road and tunnel authority Landsverk can start work on the Húsavík-Dalur tunnel in May.
Yvirfriðingarnevndin (the National Trust) has given the green light, but it insists that the conditions placed by the local conservation authority in Sandoy still apply.

These conditions include finding a new location for the soil depository, which was originally planned for Húsavík, and that building materials can only be placed along the Húsavík-Dalur road at the discretion of the conservation authorities.
The National Trust also demands that the project must be planned in such a way that a lane passing from Dalur to the tunnel entrance at the Dalur side is disturbed as little as possible.
