The Faroese national football team played its best game for some time last night, despite losing 2-0 to Norway.

At half-time the score was 0-0, and the Faroese team had had more attempts at goal than their opponents.

Five minutes into the second half, the Faroese were punished for a passive restart as Bjørn Johnsen opened the score for the Norwegians.

Revival

This seemed to revive the Faroese players, who then had several attempts at an equaliser.

The biggest scoring opportunity came 15 minutes from the whistle, when Odmar Færø’s header hit the post.

Towards the end of the game, the Faroese coach ordered a more offensive approach, which led to a series of counterattacks from the Norwegians, one of which led to Bjørn Johnsen sealing the score at 2-0.

Disappointed players

Commentators agree that this is one of the strongest performances by the Faroese team in recent times, and players and coach alike expressed great disappointment after the match.

The next Euro 2020 qualifiers for the Faroes are in September, first at home against Sweden and then away against Spain.
