Medical cannabis on its way
A doctor has requested medical cannabis from the Pharmacy Service, which has now placed an order with a Dutch company.
The order comes from Holland because Denmark is not authorised to export cannabis that it has imported from abroad.
This shipment will contain actual cannabis buds and not the cannabis drops currently available.
Danish trial system approved in the Faroes
Faroese MPs have expressed a positive interest in adopting the Danish trial system for medical cannabis, and they are expected to vote on the matter soon.
Despite the lack of formal authority, the health ministry has now asked the Medical Registration Board to register cannabis for medical use.
Cannabis drops have been available on prescription in the Faroes for some time, and figures from earlier this year show that 61 patients are receiving treatment with this medication.
