Work begins on biogas plant
A complaint about the planned construction of a biogas plant has been retracted
P/F Føroysk Náttúruorka, a subsidiary of salmon farming company Bakkafrost, has started building a biogas plant here, between Hoyvík and the Sund power plant, Streymoy

16.08.2019 - 19:37

In May, homeowners in a district located two kilometres from the planned biogas plant submitted a complaint about placement and smell issues.

This complaint has now been retracted, and work has started on the building the plant.

From waste to energy

The biogas plant will process cow dung and waste from the fish farming industry.

It will supply energy to power provider SEV and heat to the District Heating Company.

The plan is also to produce energy from biodegradable household trash in the future.

The plant is estimated to have an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes of biological waste, although the company will aim for 50,000 tonnes in the first year of operation.
