Election registration list now completed
The registration deadline for the general election on 31 August passed on Saturday.
Nine political parties will be running for the election, with a total of 179 candidates.
Tjóðveldi (the Republican Party) has the largest number of candidates, with 34. Next is Sambandsflokkuring (the Union Party) with 29, followed by Javnaðarflokkurin (the Social Democratic Party) and Fólkaflokkurin (the People’s Party) 28 each.
Sjálvstýri (the Self-Governing Party) and Miðflokkurin (the Central Party) have 15 candidates each, Framsókn (the Progress Party) has 14, Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja kannabis (the campaign for the right to choose cannabis) has 12 and Føroyaflokkurin (the Faroese Party) has four candidates.
Two prominent vote catchers from previous general elections joined the registration list at the last minute.
Kristin Michelsen, who was dismissed from Javnaðarflokkurin earlier this year, has registered as a candidate for Sjálvstýri.
Tórbjørn Jacobsen, mayor of Runavík Municipality, has registered as a candidate for Tjóðveldi.
