Temporary post-Brexit fisheries deal secured
Britain and the Faroes have agreed to continue the current EU-based bilateral fisheries agreement for the rest of this year despite Brexit
The UK’s withdrawal from the European Union will not affect the fishery relations between Britain and the Faroes this year and possibly not next year either

16.10.2019 - 09:09

Britain’s upcoming withdrawal from the EU will not change the fisheries relations between the UK and the Faroes until 2020 or 2021.

The two nations have agreed to continue their bilateral fisheries agreement in accordance with the current EU fisheries agreement for the remainder of this year.

It is also likely that this agreement will continue next year.

New deal in 2021

A new framework deal and a new fishing rights agreement will be made for 2021.

Fisheries minister Jacob Vestergaard is currently in talks with the parliamentary foreign affairs committee regarding the details of this new deal.

A vast majority of Faroese fishery within the EU takes place in British Isles waters.
