Leisure activity card now also in Tvøroyri
From 1 January, children and teenagers in Tvøroyri, Suðuroy, will be able to attend virtually any leisure activity they like free of charge.
The Town Council has introduced a so-called leisure activity card, which is based on a system pioneered in Iceland.
Funded by the municipality, the card is a DKK 2,000 per year subsidy designed to encourage participation in recreational activities regardless of socio- or economic background.

Runavík Town Council announced a similar system two weeks ago, initially on a trial basis.
A few days later, Nes municipality, which comprises the towns of Nes, Toftir and Saltnes, announced it will also introduce a leisure activity subsidy for young people.
Subject to tax
According to tax authority TAKS, the subsidy is taxable.
Finance minister Jørgen Niclasen says that he will take a closer look at taxation in relation to the new subsidy.
“But taxation of this subsidy will not be an issue for most of these young people, as they already have a basic tax allowance,” he says.
