Busy road is cracking
The road running through the village of Skálafjørður is cracking at the edges, and the number of car accidents on the road keeps piling up.
Last Monday saw the most recent accident on the road, coming eight days after the previous one.
“It’s only a matter of time before the next serious accident occurs here,” says Tummas Brøðraberg, who lives in the village of Skálafjørður, Eysturoy.
Heavy traffic on worn-down road
“There is a lot of heavy traffic on this road,” says Brøðraberg. “All the industrial activity taking place in Skála and Strendur goes through our village.”
After years of repeatedly reminding the road authorities of the dangerous condition of the road, Brøðraberg and other locals have now given up.
“We have been warning about the dangers of having such heave traffic on such a worn-down road, but there’s no point in continuing. Nobody is listening to us.”
