Busy weekend for the police
Late November/early December marks the climax of the office Christmas parties, and more people than usual are found in the city nightlife.
This year was no exception, and police had their hands full this weekend, especially in the two major cities, Tórshavn and Klaksvík.
Drink-driving and aggression
Ambulance services were called out no less than nine times to deal with injured citizens.
Police were called to two parties, one in the capital and one in Klaksvík, to incidents alcohol-fuelled agression.
A man in Tórshavn was caught driving under the influence of alcohol, and he is expected to be given a driving ban.
A moped rider was arrested in Klaksvík for driving under the influence of alcohol. He received a fine but was not banned from driving a car.
Unauthorised taxis
Police have recently received many reports of taxis from outside of Tórshavn municipality operating in the capital.
This is in breach of the taxi directive for Tórshavn, which states that any taxi activity must be authorised by the City Council. Driving passengers to and from the capital for a charge is, however, permitted.
One taxi driver was fined this weekend for breaching this law.
Although the city streets were unusually busy this weekend, police received no reports of assault and violence.
