Man charged after shooting incident
A 39-year-old man has been charged with threatening and attempting to assault a police officer during Monday’s shooting incident in Miðvágur.
On Monday evening, a shooting incident broke out in Miðvágur after reports of a man threatening to take his own life with a shotgun.
When police officers arrived at the scene, the man fired numerous shots at them. The officers returned fire, and one of the shots hit the man. His condition is currently unknown.
Threats
The man is also charged with threatening the doctor who called the police, and he faces an additional charge of obstructing police work in connection with the incident.
He is also accused of threatening the police’s special operations commander with head-butts and, later, attempting a head-butt. He is also charged with spitting at the police officer.
As the man is undergoing treatment at the National Hospital, he was not present in court when the decision to detain him until 20 December was made.
Danish police investigating
Since Faroese police officers were actively involved in the incident, further investigations will be carried out by the Danish state police.
Six police officers and a medical examiner from Denmark arrived in the Faroes on Tuesday to investigate the incident.
