Suðuroy network cable damage identified
The cause of the recent slow internet speeds in Suðuroy and Sandoy has now been identified: the network cable on the seabed in the Skopunarfjørður strait has snapped.
”Coast guard ships have helped us locate the damage site. It appears that the heavy underwater currents in the area have ripped the cable apart,” says Páll H. Vesturbú, CEO of Føroya Tele’s network operator Net.

“Now we are waiting until early next month when current conditions allow for repair works.”
Vesturbú adds that due to various adjustments elsewhere, most internet-related services in Sandoy and Suðuroy are back to normal. There may still be some minor issues with internet-based TV, but this should also be back to normal soon.
