A new survey on sex habits suggests that half of the Faroese population is either very happy or happy with their sex lives.

The survey, carried out by polling company spyr.fo, asked 500 people a number of questions about their sex lives.

Twenty-two percent of the respondents reported being “very happy”, while 28 percent said they were “happy” with their sex lives.

This amounts to 50 percent. If we add the 24 percent who said they were “fairly happy” with their sex lives, we are up to 74 percent of the population being from fairly to very happy with their sex lives.

At the other end of the spectrum are the 10 percent who are “very unhappy” and the 14 percent who are “unhappy” with their sex lives.

The survey suggests that men are slightly more content with their sex lives, as 25 percent of the men, compared to 20 percent of the women, reported being very happy with their sex lives. Of those who reported being “very unhappy” with their sex lives, 13 percent were women and 9 percent were men.

The differences between the ages were not significant in the survey, but it appears that those aged between 60 and 80 were happiest with their sex lives. They were followed by the 18-29 age group, then the 45-59s, with the 30-44 group making up the tail end in this context.

Frequency

The respondents were also asked how frequently they engage in sexual activities.

Thirty-eight percent said they have sex at least once per week. 28 percent said one to three times per month and 33 percent said less than once a month.

Half of all respondents said they felt they have enough sex. And it is those who have the most sex who reported having the best sex, with 80 percent of those who said they were “happy” or “very happy” with their sex lives also reporting having sex frequently.

And those who have less frequent sex reported being less happy with their sex lives. Of those who have less frequent sex, 26 percent said they were “very unhappy” and 28 percent said they were “unhappy”. Another 28 percent of those who have less frequent sex reported being “fairly happy” with their sex lives.

Porn

Just over half, 51 percent, said they watch erotic content online. This figure is dominated by men (66 percent vs 33 percent for women).

More than half, 56 percent, did not have an answer to the question of whether the Faroese law on porn should be changed. Twelve percent would like the law to become more lenient. 22 percent want it to remain as it is, while 9 percent want it to be made stricter.

The average statistical uncertainty for all the questions in the survey is plus/minus 3 percent.

The survey was carried out at the end of January.
