Faroese nature enthusiast wins major Nordic award
Honorary doctor, author and nature enthusiast Jens-Kjeld Jensen yesterday scooped the prestigious Nordic Council Environment Prize.
Jensen won the prize based on his tireless efforts with more than 40 years of research into biodiversity in the Faroe Islands, resulting in five books and hundreds of articles in which he has documented more than 350 new plant and animal species in the country.
At yesterday’s digital awards ceremony, the Danish-born nature enthusiast thanked the Nordic Council for the DKK 350,000 prize and the Faroese people for their continued support of his work.

A heartfelt thank you went out to his wife, who among other things runs their popular website.
Three other Faroese citizens were also nominated for Nordic Council prizes: musician Janus Rasmussen for his composition Vín, author Oddfríður Marni Rasmussen for his novel Ikki fyrr enn tá and author Rakel Helmsdal for her children’s book Loftar tú mær?.
