New mayors in Tórshavn and Klaksvík
Javnaðarflokkurin and Sambandsflokkurin have formed a Tórshavn City Council coalition, and Heðin Mortensen has been nominated as the new mayor.
Klaksvík will soon appoint a new mayor after it became clear that Jógvan Skorheim has not been re-elected. The lead candidate for the mayor post is believed to be Fólkaflokkurin’s Atli Justinussen.
In the third-largest municipality, Runavík, sitting mayor Torbjørn Jacobsen doubled his number of votes from the previous local election.
Bjarni Prior, of Fólkaflokkurin, will be the new mayor of Vága municipality, while Javnaðarfolkkurin’s Bjarni Johansen will take up the mayor’s role in Vágs municipality in Suðuroy.
Although not finalised, indications are that Vestmanna’s sitting mayor, Pauli Trónd Petersen, will continue, and Tvøroyri’s Kristin Michelsen likewise.
Other likely new mayors include Per Martin Gregersen in Eystur municipality, Jógvan Kruse in Sunda municipality and Marita Sumberg in Viðareiði.
