The rapid-spreading UK Covid-19 strain, known as B.1.1.7., has now made its way to the Faroe Islands, reports corona.fo.

A person travelling from Africa recently tested positive in a follow-up test six days after arrival in the Faroes.

An analysis of the test sample revealed that it contained the B.1.1.7. variant.

The person went directly into quarantine after arriving in the country and has only been in contact with one other person.

Both are said to be feeling fine and there is nothing to indicate that the special strain has spread to others in the Faroes, according to corona.fo.

As a safety precaution, the health authorities have asked the infected person to remain in quarantine for 14 days instead of the recommended ten days.

The person will also be required to provide a negative Covid test before being released from the quarantine.

No new Covid cases

Yesterday’s round of 325 tests yielded no positive outcomes.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0 and 0.

There are currently seven active Covid cases in the country. One person is receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and the latest figures show that 20 people are in quarantine.

Just under 3,000 people in the Faroes have now been vaccinated.
