National theatre to be built at Tórshavn harbour
Tjóðleikhúsið, the National Theatre, will be built at Tórshavn’s Bursatangi, overlooking the government buildings at Tinganes.
This was decided today after the results of an evaluation of seven location proposals from architect firms were announced.
Five of the seven proposal specified Bursatangi as the ideal location, while the other two suggested Skálatrøð and Boðanes, both also in Tórshavn.
A popular choice
The final decision fell on Bursatangi and, according to culture minister Jenis av Rana, it did not take much deliberation by the judges to reach this decision.
“I am delighted that no less than five of the seven architect firms pointed to the same location, and it also pleases me personally that they picked this location,” he said.
The design of the new building will be revealed within the next year.
