Concerns over delayed budget proposal
Parliament is running out of time as no budget proposal for next year has yet been submitted.
The normal deadline for submitting a budget proposal to Parliament is 1 October, which means that the reading process for the proposal will be much shorter than usual.
This is very unfortunate, says finance committee member and former Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen, because the consultation period may be as short as one week, compared to 11-12 weeks in previous years, and that may present a democratic challenge:

“With such a short processing time, it will be difficult for the finance committee to consult with all the parties that will be affected by changes in the 2020 budget before the proposal is due for approval in Parliament.”
If Parliament fails to approve the 2020 budget by 1 January, a provisional budget will be implemented.
