The organisers of the G! music festival in Gøta, Eysturoy, decided to cancel this year’s event in May after the government advised against holding music festivals in July and August.

Organisers of another major music festival, the Summarfestivalurin in Klaksvík, decided to wait it out a bit longer. But having realised that the government’s guidelines are unlikely to change, they have now announced that their event will also be cancelled.

Ticket holders for both festivals have the option of receiving a refund or using their ticket for next year’s festival.

The other major music festival, Voxbotn in Tórshavn, originally scheduled for late June, has been provisionally rescheduled to 5 September.

The government has increased the maximum compensation for music festival from 75 percent to 85 percent of preparation costs.
