On 20 December, the Hospital Service decided not to allow visitors inside any of the three hospitals in the country after a staff member and a patient at Tórshavn’s National Hospital tested positive for Covid-19.

The plan was to maintain the visitor ban for two weeks to prevent the virus from entering the hospitals. This ban has now been extended to this Friday at the earliest as an added safety measure, reports corona.fo.

Certain exceptions can be made, according to National Hospital CEO Steinar Eirikstoft:

“In exceptional cases, people can make arrangements with the relevant hospital department to visit patients who are close to death or have particularly serious conditions.”

No new Covid cases

Yesterday was the second consecutive day with no new Covid-19 cases registered.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 4, 14, 3, 1, 2, 0 and 0.

There are currently 36 active cases in the country. Two people are receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and the latest figures show that 136 people are in quarantine.
