“Immense pressure” on vaccination authorities
The original Covid vaccination strategy to complete vaccinations by June appears to be going as planned.
Up to now, the main focus has been on vaccinating frontline health and social care workers (group 1), residents in care homes (group 2), people in at-risk groups (group 3) and relatives who provide essential care to people in at-risk groups (group 4).

But a misconception about the definition of group 4 is putting the vaccination group under great pressure.
“We are being inundated with calls from people who want to get vaccinated now because they believe they belong to group 4,” says Tummas í Garði, COO of the Hospital Service and a member of the vaccination group.
“It is important to point out that group 4 only includes relatives who provide essential care to at-risk people, and not just any relative. Perhaps this category wasn’t defined clearly enough when we started. I hope this clarifies things a bit more now.”
