Handball team enjoys historic victory
The Faroese national handball team last night pulled off a sporting sensation with a thrilling 27-26 win over the Czech Republic.
As well as being one of the greatest moments in Faroese handball history, the game also stood out for other reasons.
Shortly before the start of the game, one of the referees, who had travelled to the Faroes from Lithuania, was found to have tested positive for Covid-19.
However, to avoid yet another postponement of the game, the European Handball Federation promptly decided to appoint two Faroese referees to oversee the match, which then went ahead as scheduled.
