Three new Covid cases, all UK variants
Three new Covid cases were registered yesterday. All three were found to contain the rapid-spreading UK Covid-19 strain, known as B.1.1.7.
The three people, all based in the Tórshavn area, are linked to a person who tested positive yesterday, 14 days after arrival from abroad.
Two of the three were placed in quarantine yesterday, but the third was not quarantined until the positive test result was established, according to chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.
Yesterday’s cases are the first instances of community spread since 14 January.

“With our society having virtually returned to normal now, there is always a risk of a sudden, rapid spread. So it is crucial that we all continue to stay alert, respect the safety precautions and keep a safe distance to others,” says Møller.
The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1 and 3.
There are currently five active Covid cases in the Faroes. No-one is receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19.
Twenty people are currently in quarantine, but this number is likely to increase as contact tracing identifies new close contacts, according to Møller.
