A fully vaccinated person has tested positive for Covid-19, according to chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.

“This is the first time this happens in the Faroe Islands, but this is not uncommon globally,” he says.

“The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is highly effective, but it ‘only’ provides about 95 percent protection. So some instances of vaccinated people testing positive are to be expected.”

No new Covid cases

No positive tests were registered yesterday. Two people have recovered since yesterday, bringing the number of active cases in the country down to 46.

No-one is receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and 478 people are currently listed as being in quarantine.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 2, 3, 4, 6, 5, 6 and 0.

According to the latest vaccination figures on corona.fo, updated on Saturday, 20,679 people (38.9 percent of the population) have received the first shot of the vaccine, while 11,761 (22.1 percent) have received the second shot.
