Faroes actively looking beyond Europe for workers
It will soon be easier for Faroese employers to recruit workers from outside the European Union.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry says it is becoming increasingly difficult to find enough workers from EU countries to meet the staff shortage in the Faroes.
“We are looking at expanding the labour mobility agreement we have with the EU to include the rest of the world,” says trade minister Magnus Rasmussen, who also oversees integration.

Special efforts will be made to ensure proper work and contract conditions for foreign workers.
“We will set up quarterly workplace inspections by tax authority TAKS and the police to make sure that all workers’ rights are respected,” he says.
“We will also be working hard to improve housing conditions for workers.”
The expanded labour mobility system is expected to be ready by the end of the year, says the minister.
