Confusion reigns in schools across the country.

Last week, the Argjahamar school in Argir and the Fossanes school in Norðdepil shut down, and parts of Klaksvík’s Skúlatrøð school has been partially closed for two weeks.

Other schools remain open, but teachers across the country describe the situation as highly confusing, says Jacob Eli Olsen, chairman of the Teachers’ Association.

“It is almost impossible to maintain any structure in our schools these days,” he says.

“Teachers show up to work and half the class is missing. Some pupils are receiving online teaching and some are in the classroom. There is simply no way for teachers to deliver consistent teaching.”

He is urging the authorities to issue clearer guidelines on how schools should deal with this new situation.

“Should we move over to online teaching across the board for a few weeks? Should we split up the younger year groups to allow for the necessary distancing? We need clearer signals here and now.”
