Parents of quarantined children entitled to compensation

Parents having to stay home from work to look after young children who are in quarantine will now be given compensation for lost income.

Parliament approved a proposal for quarantine-related compensation for parents on Wednesday, which will apply retrospectively from 15 September this year.

The new regulation grants a maximum daily compensation of DKK 972 to parents of children aged below 14 who have been put into quarantine by the health authorities either due to Covid infection or exposure to Covid.

The new compensation system is administered by Almannaráðið (the Ministry of Social Affairs), phone number 304040.

New Covid cases

Forty-seven new Covid cases were registered on Tuesday and 48 yesterday, reports corona.fo.

All have been notified by the health authorities, and extensive contact tracing is underway.

There are currently 618 active Covid cases in the country. Five people are receiving Covid treatment in hospital, and eight Covid-related fatalities have been registered.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 55, 48, 29, 52, 64, 47 and 48.

Free tunnel travel

The toll fee reimbursement for people travelling in passenger cars through the Eysturoy tunnel for Covid testing in Tórshavn will continue until 15 November.

Register your name, phone number and your car’s licence plate number at the testing site, and the tunnel charge will be reimbursed within a few days.

According to the latest vaccination figures on corona.fo, updated today, 90.6 percent of the 12+ population have received the first shot of the vaccine, 85.8 percent have received the second shot and 6.9 percent have received a third booster shot.
