New measures to limit ”unnecessary” Covid testing

A further DKK 12 million has been earmarked for Covid testing this year, and a new strategy will be implemented to limit testing to those who really need it.

At yesterday’s third reading of a bill on additional funding for Covid testing, it emerged that the health ministry had requested DKK 18.3 million for this purpose.

MPs settled on DKK 12 million, with some coalition MPs arguing that too much is being spent on tests that are not strictly necessary.

They called for a clear strategy on how to ensure that only the most necessary tests are carried out. This request was approved.

New Covid cases

Fifty-three new Covid cases were registered on Wednesday and 39 yesterday, reports corona.fo.

All have been notified by the health authorities, and extensive contact tracing is underway.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 41, 38, 40, 35, 40, 53 and 39.

There are currently 396 active Covid cases in the country. Seven Covid patients are in hospital, and a total of 13 Covid-related fatalities have been registered since the outbreak of the pandemic.

According to the latest vaccination figures on corona.fo, updated yesterday, 91.9 percent of the 12+ population have received the first shot of the vaccine, 87.6 percent have received the second shot and 10.5 percent have received a third booster shot.
