SAS strike puts pressure on Atlantic

SAS strike puts pressure on Atlantic
Atlantic Airways is struggling to cope with the extraordinary demand caused by SAS’ pilot strike

All SAS flights on the Faroes-Denmark route have been put on hold after about 1,000 of the airline’s pilots went on strike on Monday.

This has put Atlantic Airways under great pressure as passengers holding SAS tickets are flocking to the Faroese airline.

“We are being inundated with requests from people who now cannot travel to the Faroes or return home from their trip to the Faroes,” says Atlantic CEO Jóhanna á Bergi.

“Most of our scheduled flights are fully booked. We have a few seats left on some flights, but right now we cannot fit in all SAS ticket holders.”

Atlantic Airways and SAS have agreed internally to help one another if either airline is unable to transport its own passengers.

But this is peak season for air travel, and there is a limit to how much Atlantic can increase its capacity at short notice.

“We may be able to add a few more flights. We are currently looking at where the highest demand is,” says Bergi.
