Covid infections appear to be on the rise
There are no official statistics, but the number of Covid-19 infections appears to be on the increase, according to public health professor Pál Weihe.
“This new omicron variant spreads fast, but it appears to cause less severe disease than previous variants, and it is unlikely to cause great care pressure on hospitals.”
However, the professor recommends that anyone with symptoms avoids close contact to elderly and vulnerable people.

“The ólavsøka national holidays are around the corner, and we will be celebrating it as we did before the pandemic,” he says.
“But there’s no need to go with a cough or a runny nose to visit elderly or vulnerable people.”
Fourth booster vaccine shots will be offered to certain groups in the autumn, and Weihe says that those eligible for these shots have every reason to take them.
