School reform plan “too vague”
School legislation will be updated, and the entire school curriculum will be reviewed over the coming year.
So said Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen in his ólavsøka speech as Parliament resumed after the summer recess.
He also recommended structural improvements in the teaching of Faroese as a foreign language, plus a review of class sizes.

Jacob Eli Olsen, the chairman of the Teachers’ Association, welcomes these suggestions, but he cannot see how such changes could come about without significant adjustments to teacher training.
“These changes would require a fundamental restructuring of our teacher training. I haven’t heard anything about how this would be funded,” he says.
“This all sounds good in theory, but without a detailed financing plan for how our teacher training can be upgraded to accommodate these changes, I’m afraid this plan sounds a bit too vague.”
