At last: new bottle deposit system in sight
New proposal seeks to make it less of a hassle to return deposit bottles and cans
The current law only requires retailers to accept deposit containers that they sell in their stores

If you want to return your deposit bottles and cans for a refund, you often need to queue up at several reverse vending machines to get rid of them all.

This is annoying and politicians know it, which is why the matter has been debated numerous times in Parliament over the past few years, so far with no solution.

But something may, finally, happen soon.

Centralised deposit system

Magnus Rasmussen, the minister of Environment, Industry and Trade, is preparing a proposal for a new deposit system which will make it possible to deposit all recyclable bottles and cans in one place.

He does not go into detail about the proposal, but he says the plan is to expand this deposit system in the coming years to include other recyclable items.
