Medicine collection point in Vágar

The health ministry and Posta are preparing a medicine collection point in Vágar.

With the new system, residents can order their prescription medicine online and then pick it up at a 24/7 collection point.

“This is a trial system which, if successful, will be extended to other areas,” says health minister Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen.

Details are scarce at the moment, but the minister believes there will be one collection point for each of the three major towns in Vágar.

Mayor: great initiative

Bjarni Prior, mayor of Vága municipality, welcomes the news.

“There are no pharmacies in Vágar, so this will obviously make life a lot easier for many of our residents."

Posta currently offers medicine deliveries in Vágar. This is a great service, but it has its limitations, says the mayor.

“If you’re not home at the time of delivery, you need to go pick up your pills at the post office which, as we all know, does not have the most convenient opening hours.”

Almost perfect

The mayor says that although a medicine collection point would be a great improvement, having a real pharmacy would be the ideal solution.

“Vágar is close to meeting the population requirement for opening a pharmacy. But let’s see. If this system works well, then we will have reached our goal,” he says.

“All we want is to have the same access to medication as everyone else in the country.”

There are no details about when the new system will be taken into use.
