Free clothes in Tórshavn on Mondays
Trousers, sweaters, shoes, dresses and anything in between – free of charge.
This is what you will find if you visit Tórshavn’s Meinigheitshúsið community church on Mondays 3.30pm-5pm.
The basement is full of boxes containing all types of clothes – mostly second-hand but also some brand new – for children and adults.

“This is all about giving and being good neighbours,” says Marjun Nattestad Petersen, who heads the Klædnagávan (the clothes gift) initiative.
“We love what the Red Cross is doing. We knew that there is great demand for such a service, so we started collecting clothes that we could hand out to those who need them.”
The Klædnagávan service has been running for a month, and Petersen acknowledges that she had expected to see more people making use of this service.

“Some may perhaps hesitate because they don’t want to expose their need for picking up clothes for free,” she says.
“But we all know these are hard times, and we do everything very discreetly. If you're not comfortable receiving clothes for free, why not bring the clothes that your children have outgrown and then perhaps you can replace them with something you find here?”
