Election event for non-Faroese speakers tonight
A special election information event will take place in Tórshavn tonight at 7pm.
The event is intended for anyone who do not understand Faroese.
Representatives from all parties running for election will be presenting their views in the English language.
There will also be an introduction to the Faroese political system, along with a panel debate on issues relevant to immigrants, including Faroese language lessons.
Immigration on the rise in the Faroes
More than 500 new immigrants have arrived in the Faroes since the last general election, and more than 400 have been employed through the fast-track programme introduced a year ago.
An integration draft bill was sent for consultation in the spring, but it failed to make it to Parliament due to an early election being called.
This year has also seen the first official intake of refugees.
Tonight’s event is organised by the Immigration Office, Tórshavn City Council’s integration coordinator and Amnesty International Føroyar.
The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome.
