Faroese handballer nominated for European ‘dream team’

Hákun West av Teigum, the right-winger on the Faroese men’s national handball team, has enjoyed a phenomenal season with the Faroese national team and his Danish club, Skanderborg-Aarhus.
The 21-year-old player from Tórshavn has for some time been regarded as one of the best young players in Europe, but now he has a chance to further cement this reputation.
On Friday, voting opens for the European Handball Federation (EHF) Excellence Awards 2023, which seeks to find the ‘dream team’ in European handball – and Teigum is among the nominees in the best right-wing player category.

He is nominated alongside handball greats such as Sweden’s Niclas Ekberg, Denmark’s Hans Lindberg and Spain’s Ferran Sole Sala.
Teigum’s nomination is further proof that the Faroes have fostered some of the top handballers in Europe, something which became clear when the Faroes, as the smallest nation ever, qualified for the EHF EURO 2024 championships, to be held in January.
