5G to ring in the new year

Føroya Tele began its transition from 4G to 5G in August 2022 with the aim of completing the project by the end of 2022.
But global supply chain issues came in the way, causing numerous delays.
Now, however, it looks like the 5G network will finally be up and running by the start of next year, according to telecoms firm Føroya Tele.

"It saddens us that the 5G rollout has been delayed and that our customers have not been given access to all the benefits the new network will bring,” says Símun Skaalum, who heads Føroya Tele’s communication division FT Samskifti.
”But now we are pleased to announce that 5G will launch at the turn of the year.”
The country’s leading telecoms providers, Føroya Tele and Nema, are working together on the 5G project and will be offering the same bandwidth, speed and capacity, but they will be competing on services.
