It remains unclear why Perseus made contact with the rubble mound breakwater. According to the harbour master, it happened as the large ship was preparing to reverse into the harbour.

Tug boats managed to pull the ship free in the early hours of this morning. The ship, which came from Iceland, is currently unloading cargo at Tórshavn Harbour.

“Inspections will be made on board the ship, but that’s not part of our work,” says harbour master Jónsvein Lamhauge.

He adds that the breakwater was marked out in accordance with current regulations and in consultation with the relevant authorities. See the video footage of the ship being pulled free here (credits: Odd Dam).
