Steady decline in criminal cases
Faroese people conducted themselves better in 2017 compared with previous years.
Significantly fewer breaches of the criminal code were reported last year than in the previous years, according to a High Commissioner report.
Last year, 499 breaches of the criminal code were reported, compared with 605 in 2016 and 610 in 2015. In 2014, the number was 700 and 738 in 2013. This shows a steady decline over the past five years.
There were also significantly fewer violent crime and vandalism cases last year than in the previous years.
Last year, however, saw an increase in the number of other crimes, such as breaches of the drug law and the animal welfare law.
Sixty-one people were jailed last year, which is a lower figure than in previous years.
