The Faroese Consumer Watchdog has now entered the debate about unrestricted travel in the countryside.

The consumer ombudsman has dealt with a complaint regarding information presented in an advertising pamphlet for tourists.

The pamphlet claims that tourists are free to walk or sit down whenever they wish.

According to the complainant, this can be interpreted as meaning that anyone is free to walk wherever they wish in the outfield.

However, the consumer ombudsman refers to a law dating back to 1937, which states that special permission is required for walks off the beaten track.

Advertising agency Sansir, which produced the pamphlet, admits that the information can be misleading and has promised that this phrase will be changed or deleted in a new edition of the pamphlet due to be printed in September.

The consumer ombudsman says that this incorrect information may be in breach of the marketing regulations. But the promised update is acceptable, and no further action will be taken.
