Proposal for public employee notice system
The proposal for a public employee notice system was submitted to the finance ministry in March.
Finance minister Kristina Háfoss said at the time that although the Ministry of Finance would be ultimately responsible for such a system, only the National Audit Office and its staff would be given access to information submitted via the system.
In other countries, it is mostly finance-related information that is reported through these notice systems, which is one of the key reasons why the National Audit Office has been selected to administer it.
The fact that the National Audit Office is not part of the national administration is also considered an added security benefit.
This proposal for a notice system is not the first of its kind in the Faroes.
The country’s financial institutions are required by law to have an internal notice system in which staff can report irregularities.
The new system will apply to the national administration and public institutions.
